Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown said that the latest data provides further encouraging evidence that the Scottish government is making good progress in driving down road casualties.
He admitted "there is still much to do particularly in respect of safety issues for pedal cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians" and pledged efforts to drive the numbers down further.
"With our partners Kristaps Porzingis Jersey , we are investing over 58 million pounds (about 90 million U.S. dollars) over this spending review on cycling infrastructure, training and road safety messages," he said.
"This includes a number of cycling safety initiatives including the 'Give Me Cycle Space' social marketing initiative to promote driver awareness of cyclists, and to be launched later next month, the 'Mutual Respect' campaign which aims to target consistent safety messages to all road users," he added.
The updated Cycling Action Plan for Scotland published on June 19 aims at the shared vision that 10 percent of everyday journeys be made by bike by 2020.
