The Broncos pass rusher who has flourished the most in first-year coach Vic Fangio's defense isn't star linebacker Von Miller but backup defensive end DeMarcus Walker .While Miller fights his way through the longest slump of his career https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-von-miller-jersey , Walker, a third-year pro from Florida State, is finally living up to his billing as one of the top inside pass rushers in the 2017 NFL draft. When general manager John Elway selected him with the 51st overall pick, he called Walker "a great inside rusher," and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Walker was "one of the top defensive players in school history."Walker didn't get much of a shot at proving himself under former coach Vance Joseph and his staff, who moved him to outside linebacker his rookie season, requiring him to learn coverages and new techniques while also dropping 20 pounds. He ended up playing in 10 games in 2017 but was only in on 10% of the snaps, and he recorded just one sack.Walker's second season was worse.Although Joseph moved him back inside, Walker had to gain back the weight he'd lost and ended up the odd man out in the defensive line rotation. He played in just three games and took less than 3% of the defensive snaps in 2018, again recording a single sack."D-Walk has gotten so much better," Joseph said last December. "He's kept his weight. He's about 285 right now, so he's grown in that area. It's a tough room. We've got six guys in that room, only five guys dress and that's five pretty good players. It's pure numbers for him. He's ready to play, he's itching to play and he's in my office every week asking to play. It's just pure numbers, that's all."Walker saw Joseph's firing and Fangio's hiring last winter as a chance to kick-start his career, and he's done just that, playing in every game for Denver (2-5) so far, making his first career start against Jacksonville last month and collecting 17 tackles and a pass breakup.Even though he's only played a third of Denver's defensive snaps, Walker leads the Broncos with four sacks, 1½ more than Miller, who's played 91% of the time."I'm making the most out of my opportunities https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-phillip-lindsay-jersey ," Walker said. "But mentality-wise, I'm feeling like my old self."Like the guy who accumulated 27 sacks , forced seven fumbles and recovered two fumbles in four seasons with the Seminoles. His 16 sacks his senior season made him a prized prospect."I'm heavier than I was in college, but I'm holding it just like I did in college," Walker said. "I'm able to move at 300 pounds and just keep my power and my strength and definitely my speed."Although others doubted him in Denver, Walker never gave up hope."We're all human. At some point in your career, everyone has a question mark in your brain. I've been down on myself before but I never once lost my confidence," Walker said.He said he leaned on his faith and kept working hard."The road to success is a dark tunnel and sometimes you might not see the end, the light," Walker said. "It's your job to just keep walking no matter what. Some people fall, some people turn around. Not me."That determination was evident right away to defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, who followed Fangio to Denver."His play has spiked," Donatell said during training camp. After recording a sack, a tackle-for-loss and two QB hits in Denver's preseason opener, Walker was so excited he just had to make sure Fangio knew."He came right up to me after the game and he was talking some smack," Fangio said. "We'll see, I'm anxious to see. You don't see everything during the course of the game, especially where I'm standing now. But he did tell me he played well."After watching the film, Fangio cracked that Walker "exaggerated a little bit.""It wasn't bad, but he had me thinking he was getting nominated for Canton," Fangio said with a chuckle. "It was good Phillip Lindsay Jersey White , but not great."He's been pretty good ever since."I can't comment on what happened before I was here, but since we've gotten here, he's been a really good worker," Fangio said. "The guy likes football, which to me is important, especially in a defensive lineman. He's been competing and taking advantage of his opportunities and his reps. ... He's getting a little bit better each and every week."Notes: Fangio said Thursday that RT Ja'Wuan James looked OK in his first full practice since hurting his right knee in the season opener. The plan is to rotate James and tackles Elijah Wilkinson and Garett Bolles if he's able to play at Indianapolis (4-2) this weekend.Follow Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapleton Paxton Lynch insisted the opponent provided no extra incentive or motivation. After spending last year out of the NFL, Lynch had his own motivation."I just wanted to show myself all the hard work I had put in had paid off," Lynch said. "I had a long offseason basically. While everyone else was playing I was at home, I wasn't playing, I was watching on TV. I was working hard. I was building myself up, believing in myself and trying to get back to where I was, and trying to figure out how I could do that."Lynch threw for one score and ran for another against his former team as part of an impressive second-half performance, leading the Seattle Seahawks to a 22-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.Competing with Geno Smith for the backup job behind Russell Wilson, Lynch made up for some shaky moments during the first two weeks of training camp by leading Seattle on a trio of second-half scoring drives using both his arm and legs to move Seattle's offense.Lynch was 11 of 15 for 109 yards and added another 38 yard rushing. He hit 6-foot-5, undrafted free agent Jazz Ferguson on a 6-yard TD in the third quarter, and added a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter by bulling through Denver defenders at the goal line.Lynch was a former first-round pick of the Broncos in 2016, only to be released before the start of last season and spent the year out of football."He lit up the whole team. It was really good," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said.Joe Flacco made his Denver debut, although it was a brief appearance for the Broncos' starting QB. Flacco played just one series and completed 3 of 4 passes for 19 yards, leading to a field goal before turning it over to backups Kevin Hogan and a lengthy look at rookie Drew Lock."Obviously you want to put the ball in the end zone there, but we did some simple things very well and it was definitely good to get out there and get live-action Womens Phillip Lindsay Jersey ," Flacco said.Lock struggled in his first outing last week against Atlanta in the Hall of Fame game, but was better against Seattle. Lock was 17 of 28 for 180 yards. He threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Devontae Jackson late in the fourth quarter, but was intercepted after being hit with 2:01 left."Obviously, it can be better, but I thought he'd made progress this week both in practice and in the game and I think it showed at times out there," Denver coach Vic Fangio said. "But you know, it's still a process for him and I don't know how long it's going to take, but I think this past week and this game were great for him."Lynch and Smith split duties in the opener with Wilson spending the evening as a spectator. Smith was asked to face a good chunk of Denver's starting defense initially, including Von Miller, but even against reserves the night was a struggle for the veteran as Seattle's reserve offensive line couldn't consistently give Smith time in the pocket.Smith was 3 of 9 for 58 yards and a passer rating of 56.7, although he nearly had a 34-yard touchdown connection with DK Metcalf late in the first half only to see the pass tip off Metcalf's outstretched fingers.Lynch took over at halftime and led Seattle on a pair of third-quarter scoring drives, the first leading to a 43-yard field goal from Jason Myers and the second capped with his strike to Ferguson.Ferguson finished with four catches for 54 yards.SMITH SURGERYCarroll said Smith will undergo surgery on Friday to have a cyst removed from his knee. The surgery is minor and Carroll said there is a chance Smith could be back in time for Seattle's next preseason game on Aug. 18.INJURIESDenver lost rookie tight end Austin Fort to an apparent left knee injury after making a 29-yard catch in the fourth quarter. Fort immediately grabbed at his knee after planting his foot and had to be carted off the field. Fangio said Fort would get an MRI back in Denver.Seattle picked up a pair of notable injuries to offensive tackle/tight end George Fant and running back Bo Scarbrough.a "legit" right ankle sprain after getting rolled up from behind while blocking downfield. Scarbrough, who was expected to get the bulk of carries in the second half, injured his hand in the third quarter.
