here were quite a few great predictions. The most commonly predicted picks were Ferrell, Jacobs, and Renfrow. Here is the entire lead
There arguably was a time when had some degree of usefulness to the NFL team that made itself the centerpiece of the training camp reality series. Arguably cheap josh jacobs jersey , that time has come and gone. debuted in 2001, years before social media became a thing and the various teams began pumping video via their websites and apps. The best argument for doing the show — to enhance national awareness of a team — isn’t nearly as strong as it once was, especially since doing the show never really correlated to establishing a national following.Meanwhile, the best arguments against doing the show have only gotten stronger, with each example of strategic secrets (like snaps counts), embarrassing moments (like Antonio Cromartie not knowing the names of his children), and flat-out dysfunction (like Hue Jackson vs. Todd Haley last year) proving the point that there’s nothing to be gained and plenty to be lost by accepting the assignment. But the league collectively likes collecting the checks from HBO, so the league continues to sanction the show. This year, the formula that narrows the field of teams that can be squeezed to do it has yet to prompt a team to accept the assignment willingly. Indeed, it seems as if none of them (Raiders, Giants, Lions, 49ers, Washington) want to do it, at all.So why not just get rid of it? Although the tension would become far more compelling if a team was forced to do it against the organization’s wishes and if the team brought that attitude to every interaction with the cameras (like James Harrison did in 2013 with the Bengals), the league seems to be reluctant to make a team submit against its will Trayvon Mullen Oakland Raiders Jersey , hopeful instead that someone eventually will take one for the greater good. This could be the year that doesn’t happen. Teams have enough to worry about at training camp without having to participate in the weekly effort to craft a one-hour show from countless hours of footage. Even with the apparent ability to veto anything that would make the team look bad, the team has to both spot it in real time and be willing to push HBO and NFL Films to drop otherwise compelling scenes (like Hue vs. Haley) onto the cutting-room floor. It’s just not worth it, for any team. It’s a distraction with no upside and all downside.Look at this this way: If there were any real benefit to serving as the subject of Hard Knocks, teams would be lining up to do it. Instead, teams line up to do it.And that should tell us all we need to know about whether the league should keep doing it. There’s few things rabid football fans enjoy more than predicting the draft. So, every year we hold a contest. But we wouldn’t just ask the fans to submit their picks without putting ourselves out there as well. So, before we get to the fan results, let’s look at how the staff did with their picks.S&BP Staff 7-round Raiders draft predictionsPickLevi DamienTyler SmithBD WilliamsMarcus KrauseTyler GreenEvan GroatJohn GilbertThomas WheatonPickLevi DamienTyler SmithBD WilliamsMarcus KrauseTyler GreenEvan GroatJohn GilbertThomas WheatonMine had trades, though after a trade down I had Clelin Ferrell as the Raiders top pick. Evan got Foster Moreau within a pick late and Tyler Green got Josh Jacobs in the first round, but at 27. BD got Hunter Renfrow Trayvon Mullen Oakland Raiders Jersey , but with the last pick. Thomas Wheaton got Maxx Crosby, albeit later in the draft than he went. So, five of the eight got one pick correct. Not bad.Now we get to the fans. I got 167 submissions. Of those 111 got at least one correct pick. Of those 27 got at least one correct pick in the correct round. The rules of the contest were that to win, you must correctly pick at least two of the Raiders’ selections. 16 people did that. Of those, 11 had at least one of those picks at the correct spot (I gave some forgiveness late due to the trades). But only one person got three correct picks — centergroveraiders who correctly picked the Raiders three first round picks, with Johnathan Abram in the correct spot. So, that’s our winner with the bragging rights and T-shirt that come with it.A close second is I Bleed Silver & Mack who nailed the Raiders top two picks of Ferrell Jacobs in the correct spots followed by Craig who got Jacobs in the correct spot and Hunter Renfrow later. He predicted Renfrow as a 7th rounder, but Renfrow was in the fifth with just one more pick afterward, so that’s pretty close. There were quite a few great predictions. The most commonly predicted picks were Ferrell, Jacobs, and Renfrow. Here is the entire leaderboardS&BP community mock draft top predictionsS&BP screen nameRound 1aRound 1bRound 1cRound 2Round 4Round 5 (4b, 4c)Round 7 (5)Round 7 S&BP screen nameRound 1aRound 1bRound 1cRound 2Round 4Round 5 (4b, 4c)Round 7 (5)Round 7Others who nailed a player the Raiders predicted, but who didn’t make our leader board include The Snake 76 and King Coram who got Isaiah Johnson in round 4 and Devi Lamien (cute) who got Trayvon Mullen in round two. Thanks again to all the submissions.
