We will not learn the facts on all 30 official visits, but we will cover what we can. The San Francisco 49ers are still finalizing their big board. This list, complied here, will at least give us an idea of the type of player or position that the Niners are interested in. I’ll describe the players that I know. SR-Senior BowlCOM-CombinePRO-Pro dayPrivate visit. Prospect making an official 30 visit.Nasir Adderley, S, Delaware (SR)Adderley is the a rangy center field type safety. He is widely regarded as a first round talent. Adderley is more of a second round type player to me.Blessuan Austin, CB, Rutgers (PRO)Marquise Blair, S, Utah (SR)Not sure where is range is, but it seems to be more of the top of the third round. Blair is another safety type that could come in and challenge at free. Blair is a very good athlete that doesn’t give up much in coverage. He doesn’t exactly qualify as that type of player that takes the ball away, either.Nick Bosa^, DE/3-4OLB, Ohio State (COM, PRO)Bosa is better than good at football.A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss (COM)Brown is a popular name that is more of a slot receiver. Or at least he was in college. Many think Brown is more refined than teammate D.K. Metcalf. Brown is a monster after the catch. He will make you miss.L.J. Collier, DE/3-4DE, TCU (SR)Collier is known as a power player. There are certain thresholds to me that if you cannot hit then I am out. Collier ran a 7.71 3-cone drill. No thanks.Deshaun Davis, ILB, Auburn (SR)Davis is a big hitter that is best when coming forward. He’s one of the better run stopping linebackers in the draft. Coverage wise? Not so much.Rashan Gary, DE/3-4DE, Michigan (PRI)Gary, to me, is just not an impact player when he rushes from the edge. He’s a completely different player when he kicks inside and can win with his athleticism. He’s a day three edge rusher and a day one defensive tackle.Carl Granderson, DE/3-4OLB, Wyoming (SR)Dre Greenlaw, OLB, Arkansas (PRI)Anthony Johnson, WR, Buffalo (SR)Tyree Kinnel, S, Michigan (EW)David Long, OLB, West Virginia (SR)Daylon Mack, DT/NT, Texas A&M (EW)Bobby Okereke, ILB, Stanford (SR)Didn’t look like a guy that can play in the NFL. Or at least at a high level. Okereke seemed like it took him minutes to get from point A to point B.Charles Omenihu, DE, Texas (COM)Justin Phillips, ILB, Oklahoma State (PRO)Jachai Polite, DE/3-4OLB/OLB, Florida (COM)Polite was pretty vocal about teams picking him apart at the combine. He did not react well and some think that he interviewed himself into day 3. Doesn’t help that Polite tested below average across the board. On the field? He’s a first round type player. His play doesn’t matchup with his combine. It seems like he just hasn’t lifted a weight since the season ended.Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson (COM)If you watched college football Dante Pettis Jersey , you know Renfrow. He was at Clemson for nine years. Renfrow showed well at the Senior Bowl. He was reliable during his time with the Tigers. He has some value in the slot. He might not be flashy and likely will have a limited ceiling. But he can get open underneath. That matters.Derick Roberson, DE, Sam Houston State (EW)Deonte Roberts, ILB, Rutgers (PRO)Chris Slayton, DT, Syracuse (PRO)Cody Thompson, WR, Toledo (EW)LaDarius Wiley, CB, Vanderbilt (PRO)Quinnen Williams, DT/3-4DE, Alabama (PRO)You may have heard of him. If you haven’t, Williams is also better than good.Khari Willis, S, Michigan State (SR)Renell Wren, DT/3-4DE, Arizona State (SR)Terry Wright, WR, Purdue (EW) The San Francisco 49ers have had some extensive cap space the past few seasons, and they were aggressive in how they chose to use it in 2018. The team gave out signing bonuses to some players, but some of their bigger contracts used roster bonuses in year one. Both are paid out up front, but the difference comes in cap account. A signing bonus prorates over the life of a contract (or five years, whichever is shorter) for cap purposes, while a roster bonus impacts the cap only on the year it is paid. The biggest contract the 49ers executed last year was Jimmy Garoppolo’s extension in February. He signed a five-year contract worth up to $137.5 million. The $27.5 million per year was the highest APY at the time of signing, but has since been surpassed by Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan, and Aaron Rodgers. The contract included a $7 million signing bonus, and a $28 million roster bonus. All the numbers together combined for a cap hit of $37 million in year one. It was the largest cap figure in the NFL, with Matthew Stafford’s $26.5 million coming in second. However, as we move into year two, Garoppolo’s cap hit drops significantly, to $19,350,000. That ranks 22nd among quarterbacks this season. Here’s the ranking of the top 23 quarterback contracts by 2019 cap hit.You can go through the QB cap hits to see how Garoppolo measures up the remaining years of his contract.2020: $26.6 million — 7th behind Aaron Rodgers ($32.6 million), Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Andrew Luck, Joe Flacco2021: $26.9 million — 4th behind Matt Ryan ($34.3 million), Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford2022: $27 million — 3rd behind Aaron Rodgers ($37 million) and Matt Ryan (only six quarterbacks signed through 2022)It’s safe to say more quarterbacks will move ahead of Garoppolo those three seasons, and potentially even this offseason with any contract extensions. And if he stays healthy and productive, we can also expect Garoppolo to sign an extension at some point.Quarterback cap figures are always changing, but more importantly, the way the NFL salary cap keeps going up means it really is not that huge a deal. Teams still get in cap trouble, but it’s significantly easier to maintain a sizable amount of cap space even with a high end contract. The 49ers will learn more about that as they figure out DeForest Buckner’s contract situation. They will exercise his fifth year option this offseason, and in the meantime can start negotiating a potential contract extension if both sides want to get something done. If Buckner builds on his breakout 2018 season, it’s safe to say he could work his way into a nine-figure contract extension. The 49ers have the cap space to make it happen, but we’ll see what happens with that over the life of Garoppolo’s own deal.
