Korey Banks got his wish and has been traded from the BC Lions. The veteran defensive back and five-time CFL All-Star has been sent to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for non-import receiver Kito Poblah. It seemed only a matter of time before Banks would be out in BC after making it known he has no interest in playing out his option year with the team. Lions GM Wally Buono meanwhile, had stated he didnt intend to renegotiate Banks contract. The 10-year CFLer has played the last eight years in BC. Last year the 34-year-old recorded 46 tackles and two interceptions. For his career Banks has 442 tackles and 37 interceptions. "Were grateful for Koreys contributions to our club and we wish him the best in Winnipeg," Buono said in a team statement. "Korey adds an immediate presence in our locker room, veteran leadership both on and off the field, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Bomber organization," Bombers GM Kyle Walters said in a team statement. "We also wish Kito all the best in Vancouver and thank him for his contributions to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers." In Poblah the Lions get a three-year veteran and former first-round supplemental pick. The Central Michigan product has 53 career catches for 534 yards. Poblah missed all but one game last season. Winnipeg also released quarterback Jason Boltus, defensive back Bo Smith, linebacker Daniel Sheffield, running back Mario Fannin and defensive end Mathieu Boulay. Cheap Nets Jerseys Authentic . The Wild, playing their first game since leading scorer Mikko Koivu broke his ankle Saturday at Washington, have won three straight for the first time since Nov. 1-5. Koivu underwent surgery on Monday and is expected to miss at least four weeks. The surprising productivity of Tyler Bozak, Brad Richards thriving in new role, lots of lineup and injury news and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking. HEROES Tyler Bozak – Toronto’s No. 1 centre scored two goals against Washington in a 6-2 win Saturday, giving him seven points (5 G, 2 A) during a four-game point streak. Bozak has been riding high percentages and power play success this season to compile 22 points (11 G, 11 A) in 23 games. 5-on-4 GOALS/60 (min. 50 minutes) PLAYER TEAM PP GOALS/60 David Backes St. Louis 5.89 Gustav Nyquist Detroit 5.15 Tyler Bozak Toronto 5.12 Joe Pavelski San Jose 4.59 Nick Foligno Columbus 4.41 While he’s killing it on the power play, part of the reason that Bozak comes under criticism is that his 5-on-5 production is mediocre, even though he plays with wingers as talented as Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk. This season, in particular, Bozak is averaging 1.32 points per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play, which ranks 184th out of 289 forwards to play at least 200 5-on-5 minutes. His decline in even-strength production comes as a result of his on-ice shooting percentage dipping from 11.2% last season to 7.8% this season – a percentage drop that wasn’t entirely unexpected because last season’s number was so inflated. One reason that Bozak has been so productive, yet also a reason that generates skepticism, is that he’s a very efficient shooter and it’s not easy to maintain a shooting percentage in that stratosphere. Since the start of last season, Bozak is the highest percentage shooter in the league (minimum 20 goals). SHOOTING PERCENTAGE SINCE 2013-14 PLAYER TEAM SH% Tyler Bozak Toronto 20.8% Steven Stamkos Tampa Bay 19.5% Jiri Hudler Calgary 18.9% Joel Ward Washington 18.8% Adam Henrique New Jersey 18.6% Brad Richards – The Blackhawks centre is rejuvenated with the opportunity to play with Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg. Richards played a season-high 19:04 in a 4-1 win at Los Angeles Saturday, scoring a pair of goals with seven shot attempts (5 SOG) to give him seven points (3 G, 4 A) in the past seven games. Kane scored a pair of goals, on 10 shot attempts (8 SOG) at Anaheim Friday, giving him 13 points (6 G, 7 A) in his past eight games and Versteeg picked up a pair of assists against Anaheim, then did it the next night against Los Angeles, and has 15 points (5 G, 10 A) in the past 12 games. Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture, Tommy Wingels – The San Jose trio had subpar possession numbers – all three under 40% -- but scored three goals in a 6-4 win over Anaheim, with Wingels putting up four points (1 G, 3 A), Couture scoring a couple goals and Marleau adding a couple assists. ZEROES Alex Chiasson – The Senators right winger had zero shot attempts in a combined 32:40 of time on ice at Florida and Tampa Bay with rough possession stats (10 shot attempts for, 26 against, 27.8%) in two games over the weekend. Capitals Goalies – Justin Peters (Three goals on 11 shots) and Braden Holtby (Three goals on 12 shots) both had a rough night in a 6-2 loss against Toronto Saturday. Frederik Andersen – Gave up five goals on 19 shots, in just over 26 minutes, in Anaheim’s 6-4 loss to San Jose Saturday. BREWER DEAL Anaheim acquired veteran defenceman Eric Brewer from Tampa Bay for a third-round draft pick. The 35-year-old has been playing a reduced role – under 20 minutes per game for the first time since 2000-01 – since the start of last season and he’s struggled this year. However, with Anaheim losing Francois Beauchemin to a broken finger, and having recently traded Bryan Allen, they could use a veteran with some size on the blueline. Expectations should be minimal at this stage of his career and it won’t come as a surprise if Brewer becomes a spare part once all Ducks defencemen are healthy. With Victor Hedman returning from injury, Brewer was also easy for the Lightning to move out, considering he might have fallen out of Tampa Bays top six. LINEUP NEED TO KNOW Bobby Ryan – The Senators’ right winger suffered a broken finger Friday at Florida and will be out for the next 4-6 weeks. It was a rough game for Ryan, who was on for five shot attempts for and 24 against (17.2%) in the loss. Victor Hedman – Tampa Bay’s top blueliner returned to action, with better than 70% possession against Ottawa Saturday, after missing more than five weeks with a broken finger. Ryan McDonagh – Returned to the Rangers lineup Friday, after missing nearly four weeks due to a separated shoulder. Kris Letang – Pittsburgh’s playmaking blueliner is out with a lower-body injury. His absence allowed Robert Bortuzzo to play against Carolina Saturday. Jonas Brodin – After missing two-and-a-half weeks while out with the mumps, Brodin returned to action for the Wild Friday, playing 22:38 in the win at Dallas. Bryan Little – The Jets centre left Friday’s 2-1 loss at Boston with a lower-body injury. Artem Anisimov – Suffered a torn triceps Saturday against Nashville, a game in which he was buried in term of puck possession (2 shot attempts for, 14 against, 12.5%), and will be out 2-3 months. Mike Cammalleri – With Adam Henrique (lower body) and Travis Zajac both out due to injuries, the Devils shifted Cammalleri to centre, with Damien Brunner and Michael Ryder on his wings, for Saturday’s game against the Islanders and they controlled play, with Cammalleri driving possession (24 shot attempts for, 10 against, 70.6%). Alex Pietrangelo – Played a season-high 30:30 at Minnesota Saturday and has six points (1 G, 5 A) in the past five games. Tom Gilbert – The Canadiens defenceman was a healthy scratch for both games over the weekend, supplanted by recently-added Bryan Allen. J.T. Miller – Recalled from the AHL, the 2011 first-rounder played his first NHL game in six weeks Saturday against Philadelphia, and put up a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win. Miller had 15 points (6 G, 9 A) in 18 AHL games and the Rangers needed reinforcements with Tanner Glass out due to the mumps and Chris Kreider missing the game following the death of his grandfather. Zemggus Girgensons – The second-year Sabres centre played a career-high 23:54 against Montreal Friday.dddddddddddd Hampus Lindholm – With the Ducks limiting ice time to third-pair rookies Jesse Blacker and Mat Clark, Lindholm skated a career-high 29:25 for the Ducks against Chicago on Friday. Eric Tangradi – Played his first game of the season for Montreal Friday, playing 8:54 on the fourth line. Vincent Lecavalier – Played 5:56 at the Rangers on Saturday and has no goals and two assists in his last 12 games. Andrew MacDonald – In the first year of a contract extension that comes with a $5-million cap hit, MacDonald was a healthy scratch against the Rangers Saturday. Islanders blueline – Lubomir Visnovsky has an upper-body injury and Johnny Boychuk a lower-body injury, so Brian Strait and Matt Donovan were inserted into the Isles’ lineup Saturday against New Jersey. David Pastrnak – In his second NHL game, Pastrnak joined Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand and while he didn’t score, did register 10 shot attempts (7 SOG).
