TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays have signed first-round picks Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost. Hoffman, a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher selected ninth overall, made 10 starts this season with East Carolina University, posting a 3-3 record with a 2.94 earned-run average. He had his final collegiate season cut short due to injury and required Tommy John surgery on May 14. He will miss the 2014 season. Pentecost, a 21-year-old catcher selected 11th, led Kennesaw State to an NCAA Super Regional appearance, while leading U.S. college division one players in hits with 113 and finishing second with a .422 average.
