MONTREAL -- The Montreal Impact may have struggled on the road lately, but on Saturday night, the team proved once more that its home game is emphatically back on track. Marco Di Vaio scored two goals and Montreal won its second in a row with a 5-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo that launches the Impact into first place in Major League Soccers Eastern Conference. The Impact improved to 12-7-5 for 41 points in 24 games, matching their win total from last season in their MLS debut. Montreal extended its home winning streak to three, and is undefeated in their last five games (3-0-2) at Saputo Stadium. But in road games, Montreal is winless in its last five (0-4-1) dating back to a 2-1 win in Kansas City on June 1. "Were playing in Philadelphia next week and then were in Boston, and Houston later on," Di Vaio said. "Those are all teams that were competing with to make the playoffs, so its going to be so important for us to get those points in road games." Di Vaio and Felipe Martins scored minutes apart in the first half to put Montreal up by a pair. Jeb Brovsky made it 3-0 in the 58th minute and Di Vaio finished off a two-man break on a pass from Patrice Bernier for his fourth goal in two games. Andrea Pisano added his first Major League Soccer goal and the Impact won its second in a row, and its third straight at Saputo Stadium, to the delight of the sold-out crowd of 20,801. "The facts speak for us," Felipe said. "When we play like that we can do good things." Troy Perkins made a diving save on a header two minutes into the second half on his way to posting a clean sheet. Houston lost for just the second time in its last seven MLS games (4-2-1). "There was a great opportunity for us before the game and we didnt play well," Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall said. "We didnt play well enough to get a draw, not even close enough to get a win, and when you dont have a very good performance on the field against a team of Montreals calibre youre going to get a lot of goals scored on you." Impact forward Justin Mapp slammed a drive off the crossbar from inside the top of the 18-yard box 14 minutes into the match. Di Vaio opened the scoring with his 14th goal in the 35th minute. The 37-year-old Italian striker took a pass from Mapp and shifted from his right foot to put a left-footed shot into the top left corner. Felipe made it 2-0 in the 37th minute when he paused to curl a shot around Houston defender Kofi Sarkodie and inside the right post. "I thought before I took my shot and Im happy because the ball went in," said the Brazilian forward, who celebrated with a samba as his teammates surrounded him after the goal. Brovsky scored his second goal of the season off a corner kick by Hernan Bernardello. Dynamo captain Brad Davis headed the kick but it went to Brovsky who put it home from the right post. "Hes a set-piece master," Brovsky said of Davis. "He whips them in pretty well and he put some good pace on it and thats why that far post run is there. If it gets through, you have to be there. Thats my job and fortunately I was there." Berniers unselfish play made it a four-goal lead as he drove in with Di Vaio and passed to his left for Di Vaio to put home his 15th goal. Andrea Pisanu scored Montreals fifth goal in stoppage time. Impact assistant coach Mauro Biello guided the team in place of head coach Marco Schallibaum, who served the first game of his two-game league suspension. "This was a big game," Biello said. "Houston was right behind us. Theyre a good team, a well-coached team. Theyre there every year. Theyve been to the finals the last two seasons. "They seem to always peak at the right moment so we were getting them at a moment where they were 4-1-1 in their last six so it was important. The guys were ready. They knew what was going to be in front of them and they reacted very well." Schallibaum, who has been suspended four times this season, received an automatic one-game suspension for his ejection from last Saturdays 2-1 win over D.C. United. The fiery Swiss coach was suspended by MLS commissioner Don Garber for one more game and fined US$5,000 Friday "for his repeated misbehaviour" so he will also miss Montreals game next Saturday in Philadelphia. HABS HEADED TO CONFERENCE FINAL The Montreal Canadiens scored early in Game Seven, built a lead and protected it well on their way to a 3-1 series-clinching win over the Boston Bruins. While this game or series isnt necessarily a referendum on the value of fourth lines, the Canadiens certainly benefitted from production lower down their forward depth chart. The final round of the BMW Championship was suspended Sunday because of steady rain that left too much water on Conway Farms. Furyk, who has a one-shot lead over Steve Stricker, was still about two hours away from even teeing off. Watch the final round of the BMW Championship live on TSN and TSN Mobile TV, today at 10am et/7am pt. "The bad news -- obviously, Im anxious to get out there and play, as is everyone else," Furyk said. "But the good news is no one wants to go out and play in this and slop it around in bad weather on a golf course where were playing the ball down and its probably a little too wet out there." Rory McIlroy found one small consolation to the end of his PGA Tour season -- he was one of six players who finished. McIlroy had yet another double bogey -- thats 12 double bogeys and a triple bogey in three FedEx Cup playoff events -- but holed out from 164 yards for eagle on the 12th hole and had his second straight 68. It was the first time he had back-to-back rounds in the 60s in the same tournament this year on the PGA Tour. Furyk was at 13-under 200 and in the final group with Stricker. Brandt Snedeker was two shots behind at 202, followed by Zach Johnson at 203 and Tiger Woods at 204. Woods was penalized two shots on Friday when his ball moved as he was removing a small branch next to it behind the first green. Dustin Johnson closed with a 72 and had to wait to make sure no one bumped him out of the top 30 in the FedEx Cup, which would keep him from the Tour Championship. Johnson tried to hit 3-wood into the par-5 18th green and produced two splashes -- one from water getting between the club face and the ball, the other when the ball came down well short and into a creek. "It just came out dead," he said. Everyone else was tto return to Conway Farms on Monday morning and act like Sunday never happened.dddddddddddd. "I think we got the better end of the deal by not even playing in it," Stricker said. Slugger White, the vice-president of rules and competition for the PGA Tour, said the forecast was for a half-inch of rain over six hours, which would not have been enough for water to accumulate. Instead, there was an inch of rain and so much water that there would have been no place to take relief from casual water. The problem holes were Nos. 3, 9, 10 and 12. "Casual water was going to take us to where we couldnt play," White said. The tour chose to play the ball down, meaning players could not lift, clean and replace their golf balls through the green. Play was stopped for 3 1/2 hours in the late morning, and then it was called again for good after the round resumed for just under an hour. Of the 48 players who at least teed off, none were within 10 shots of the lead when they started. Even so, the conditions were difficult for those who still had something at stake. Charles Howell III started the week at No. 31 in the FedEx Cup standings. He was 1 over through four holes. Rickie Fowler had a chance to get into the top 30 and advance to the Tour Championship. He shot 77 in the first round and bounced back with a pair of 68s. Fowler was 2 under through four holes Sunday. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., made it through just two holes after entering the day at 2 under. Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., played seven holes and began play at 2 over. The final round was to resume at 8 a.m. with a reasonable forecast. It will be the fourth time this year that a PGA Tour event had to go an extra day. The Farmers Insurance Open (fog) and Arnold Palmer Invitational (storms) ended on a Monday. The Tournament of Champions had a Tuesday finish after being shortened to 54 holes because of high wind.
